B1-[General exhibition intro text]

STORIES AND HISTORIES

The entry to the Biennale is dedicated to performative works and time-based practices, including cinematic works of art. This hall welcomes viewers with a reminder that life is a continuous performance. Theatricality is embedded in all societal and political interactions. The act of staging is central to the selection of the featured works that occupy the space as storytellers, vibrant protagonists, and acteurs.

A playful tension is created between a black box and a white circle. The Black Box houses films by artists alternating with performances that occur throughout the duration of the Biennale exhibition. Arranged on and around a large white circle are works dedicated to the stage, the circus, the burlesque, and the spiritual. This hall highlights the importance of the viewer as an active contributor in unlocking the stories contained within a work of art.
